ABOUT US

Raul Serafim was born in 1964 and completed his doctoral thesis on Artificial and Natural Lighting at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Previously, as part of his basic training, he graduated in Electronic Engineering and Computing from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto.

His work is based on a simple idea: light should serve those who live in the space. That is why each project always starts with people and the way they move, work or inhabit the space.

Throughout his career, he has developed lighting designs mainly for public and large-scale buildings, where technical precision, efficiency and integration with architecture are essential. This experience has given him the ability to solve complex scenarios, anticipate challenges and create lasting and energy-efficient solutions.

In addition to his extensive experience in museums and corporate buildings, his rigour and sensitivity to hotel and residential projects, where sensibilities are different but equally demanding, are also noteworthy. In these contexts, light is no longer just functional but takes on an emotional dimension, accompanying routines, creating comfort, shaping atmospheres and reinforcing the feeling of intimacy. This is where the work becomes more sensitive and personalised, adapting to the rhythm of each user.

An essential part of his work is also dedicated to outdoor spaces, an area that requires technical and environmental sensitivity: the choice of colour temperature, intensity and orientation of light is made to ensure safety and comfort without compromising natural life.

WHAT WE DO

Light has a silent but decisive impact on how we experience a space. It influences our well-being, productivity and even our perception of each environment, whether in a home, hotel, office, public space or even outdoors. Light Design exists to transform light into an intentional element, capable of serving people and places with precision.

The work of a lighting designer is not just about illuminating. It is about creating the right experience for each moment, combining sensitivity, technique, sustainability, and comfort.

A good lighting designer thinks of light and shadow as a living part of the space: discreet, functional, and capable of completely transforming the way the place is experienced.

This is our main goal!

PROCESS

Philosophy

Light is the invisible architecture that shapes what we feel before we even see. It does not merely illuminate — it reveals depths, suggests paths, creates intimacy or openness. It is a subtle and silent presence, yet decisive in the way we inhabit a space.

The process arises from this awareness: every detail of light is conceived as a gesture of balance, innovation, and precision, creating harmony between space and emotion.

Design Approach

From concept to the final detail, design is conceived as a path of constant involvement. Each stage is lived closely, with listening, exchange, and precision — because we believe the process is just as important as the outcome.

Rigor and experience stand as essential pillars: only then is it possible to achieve solutions that are not merely functional, but extraordinary in the way they elevate the space and the experience of those who inhabit it.
